We had a group meeting to discuss some initial ideas with our technician, Chris. By this point we had slightly gone off the idea of the Rogue Traders song as we weren't completely keen on the song and we didn't have much of a concept or idea for the video, apart from the idea of voyeurism which we took from the lyrics. We really wanted to go with a song that all three of us were 100% inspired to do. After some more research into songs by girl groups or bands with female lead singers, we started getting into a band called Soho Dolls, as we were familiar with a few of their songs from the TV show 'Gossip Girl'.
The song is called Stripper and is by Soho Dolls:
We all agreed that as the song is so clearly about a stripper in a club, we wanted to turn it on its head and do something a bit tongue-in-cheek. Charley came up with the idea of painting instead of stripping, doing a typically "manly" job, but kind of as if we were performing in a strip club. This then meant that we would need another character, a man, whose house we were painting, and he would act like a man in a strip club, watching us paint. Although he is watching us, the lyrics include lines like 'Don't touch the girls' so then he could receive some kind of shock or punishment for ogling us.
All three of us were very keen on the idea and Chris thought that it would definitely be feasible to create, and that we could potentially film in the Seward Studio using theatre flaps from the art department to paint on. He also suggested that we create another side to our video, so add in a performance aspect, as otherwise it may become too repetitive. It also meant that we could get across our band identity through our styling and performance attitudes, as during the narrative we will be dressed for painting in dungarees and overalls.
